Yesterday I had a good, but hard, conversation with a friend about life. We were talking about some of the difficult challenges that we face. Spiritual challenges, emotional challenges, and physical challenges…none of us are immune…we all face them. As followers of Christ we also realize that God is somehow going to use those challenges to bring glory to Himself and further His kingdom. This is why we can find joy even in the midst of the most difficult of circumstances.
Yet as my friend and I discussed a really challenging situation that we were working through, they reminded me of one of the great promises we have as Christians. This world is NOT our home! Thank God! I couldn’t help but be reminded of the passage in Revelation 20 that speaks of the new heaven and earth.
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her hsuband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Let’s praise God in the storms of our lives…let’s trust that He will conform us into His image through suffering…let’s persevere, by faith, through the trials with supreme confidence that this world is NOT our home! To God be the glory!
