A young pastor, the local church, and the future of the Southern Bapist Convention

I shared with you in a previous post about the assembling of a Great Commission Resurgance Taskforce (which includes our Sr. Pastor Al Gilbert) that was approved by the messengers of the SBC held in Louisville this past June.  They have been assembled to make recommendations to the Southern Baptist Convention regarding how we can “more faithfully and effectively work together in serving Christ through the Great Commission.”

One of the members of the GCRT is Dr. J.D. Greear.  J.D. is the Lead Pastor of the Summit Church in Durham, North Carolina.  He is a visionary who is passionate about the local church.  When we have graduates who are attending universities in the RDU area I always encourage them to check out the Summit Church.

Earlier this week J.D. posted a blog on the www.pray4gcr.com website that I want to encourage you to read.  He shares a fresh perspective regarding the role of the local church and how many young southern baptist pastors view the Southern Baptist Convention.  It is well written and I want to encourage you to read it.  You can find it here

While at www.pray4gcr.com would you be willing to sign up to be their prayer partner for the next 10 months as they go about the task assigned to them?
